Shobha Broota (b. 1943) was born in New Delhi and trained at the College of Art, New Delhi, where she later taught. Her practice is rooted in abstraction, with a sustained focus on minimal form and meditative composition.

Broota’s work is characterised by restrained palettes, often dominated by white or soft tonal fields, within which she introduces subtle geometric structures and linear interventions. Over time, her engagement with the bindu and the line has become central, reflecting an interest in stillness, balance, and inner perception.

She is regarded as an important voice in contemporary Indian abstraction, known for a practice that emphasises reduction, discipline, and a contemplative visual language.
