Sheetal Gattani is a Mumbai-based abstract painter working on paper and canvas in a spare palette, shorn of gestural flourish or recognisable form. Her process is intuitive rather than planned: she begins without a fixed idea, letting each work emerge through rigorous, repeated layering, the surface painted over many times, then scratched, carved, peeled, and reworked in watercolour, charcoal, or dry pastel, a sustained dialogue between medium and time.

She had not considered art as a serious path until she joined Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, initially intending to teach art to children, an encounter that redirected her into painting itself.
