From Ritual to Form
From Ritual
to Form
For many modern Indian artists, the search for a new visual language was inseparable from questions of tradition, spirituality, and cultural memory. Rather than rejecting inherited forms, they returned to mythology, devotional imagery, folk traditions, and philosophical ideas as sources for experimentation and reinterpretation. In their hands, ritual was transformed from a lived practice into a formal language, one that could be explored through colour, geometry, gesture, and abstraction.
Together, their works demonstrate how ritual can move beyond representation to become structure, process, and form thus bridging inherited knowledge with the evolving language of modern art.
