Manisha Gera Baswani

Manisha Gera Baswani (b. 1967) is a multidisciplinary artist from New Delhi, working across painting, photography, sculpture, and poetic writing to trace cultural connections across Asian traditions. Her perforated paper drawings, which have defined much of her recent practice, grew out of the repetitive acupuncture treatments she underwent during a prolonged illness, beginning as depictions of organs such as the heart, brain, and spinal cord before developing into a fully formed visual language rendered with painterly precision in pen and delicate brushwork. She has more recently extended this vocabulary into textile, working in mulmul embroidered in the chikankari style.

She is also the creator of Artist Through the Lens, a long-running photographic project documenting the studios of artists across the Indian subcontinent, and its related series Postcards from Home, which traces the shared histories of artists from India and Pakistan divided by Partition, drawing in part on her own parents' memory of the home they left behind.
