Kalal Laxma Goud (b. 1940) was born in Nizampur, Telangana, and studied at the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture in Hyderabad before training under K. G. Subramanyan at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. His rural upbringing became the foundation of a practice deeply rooted in village life, folklore, and memory.

Working across printmaking, drawing, painting, and sculpture, Goud is best known for his intricate line work and intimate depictions of human and animal forms. His compositions explore themes of nature, desire, and everyday life through a visual language that is both lyrical and deeply personal.

He is regarded as one of India's foremost printmakers, celebrated for bridging vernacular traditions with a distinctly modern artistic expression.
