Anupam Sud
Anupam Sud (b. 1944) was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and studied at the College of Art, New Delhi, before pursuing advanced printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art on a British Council scholarship. A pioneering printmaker, she was among the youngest members of Group 8, a collective that played a significant role in advancing printmaking in India.
Working primarily in intaglio and etching, Sud developed a distinctive visual language centered on the human figure. Her prints explore themes of identity, intimacy, gender, and human relationships through carefully observed forms, layered symbolism, and psychological depth. While deeply introspective, her work often engages with broader social questions through metaphor rather than direct narrative.
She is regarded as one of India's foremost printmakers, celebrated for expanding the possibilities of the medium while mentoring generations of artists through her long association with the College of Art, New Delhi.
